Alila Diwa, Goa: an all-inclusive family holiday that’s far from the usual tourist trail

Take the family off the beaten track at this deluxe five-star resort

Located in the south of this former Portuguese colony on the western coast of India, Alila Diwa is a quiet, calm and relaxing high-end resort that’s a world away from the beaten tourist trails and crowds.

Here, amid the serene landscape of lush, verdant rice plantations just a short walk from the Arabian Sea, take a glimpse at authentic Goa and find the perfect family holiday with something for everyone.

Feeling amazing with Ayurveda

Plan some indulgent me-time in the resort’s Spa Alila (open daily, 7am-9pm). Here you’ll find nine treatment rooms (two are doubles) as well as a sauna and beauty salon. Choose anything from a single treatment through to an exotic ‘Ayurvedic detox detour’ lasting three nights or more.

You’ll start with a consultation that covers nutrition, health and stress, followed by sessions of healing, hypnotherapy, yoga, meditation and exercise. This will be combined with nutritionally balanced meals, juices and Ayurvedic supplements, workshops, massages and cooking classes.

Something for the kids

While you’re relaxing or detoxing, there’s no reason for other family members to be bored. There’s a beautiful 60ft-long infinity pool, the second largest in India – but if that’s too energetic, hop on to one of the loungers located in the middle of the water. Yoga and table tennis are available on site, as well as cricket nets (and equipment), a kids’ activity centre, teen zone and cinema showing the best of Hollywood (and Bollywood!) every day.

Majorda Beach and beyond

Just five minutes walk away you’ll find the sweeping white sand of Majorda Beach, which has some great places for an informal seafood lunch. Try Sam’s Goan Shack and enjoy authentic and inexpensive Goan cuisine on the sand, under wide palm fronds.

Or if you fancy a fascinating few hours away from the resort, don’t miss a half-day tour through a 200-year-old spice plantation in Ponda around an hour away. Here you can learn loads about flavour combinations (such as persimmon and vanilla), and the resort chef will demonstrate how to make a delicious meal using the spices you buy.

Talking of delicious meals, don’t miss dinner in the resort’s Spice Studio, a trendy contemporary eatery on a raised wooden platform that surrounds a beautiful banyan tree.

Seven nights all-inclusive at Alila Diwa through TUI for a family of four starts from £1,383 per person (January 2020 departure), including flights and private taxi transfers.
